If you want to keep the engine in your vehicle running at peak performance, you should replace the engine air filter regularly. Especially if you have tractors, it is more important because the driving environment of tractors is surrounded by particles. For this reason, you will need to check the filter at regular intervals as air filters can become fragile over time.

Air filters serve many vital functions in your tractor. These functions can be listed as follows:

  • It prevents dirt from entering the engine cylinders, causing mechanical wear and oil contamination.
  • With an air filter in place, the engine won't absorb dirt and grime. If the air filter is not in place or doesn’t work properly this can damage internal engine parts such as valves, pistons, and cylinder walls.

An engine combines air and fuel in the combustion chamber to create power. The air filter must allow enough air to reach the engine for it to operate effectively. Air filters are usually made of fibrous or porous material. Over time, the air filter can become dirty and clogged and a lack of air can affect engine power where it has to work harder to pull air.

When Do I Need To Change The Air Filter?

  • If the engine is misfiring.
  • If you hear unusual engine sounds.
  • If the air filter looks dirty.
  • If horsepower is reduced.
  • If black sooty smoke or flames from the exhaust.
  • If you feel a fuel smell when you start the tractor.

Agricultural tractors operate in extremely dusty conditions. For this reason, air filters can become dirty much faster. Especially after extreme workings, you may need to maintain your tractor's air filter with daily checks or even hourly checks. Because if your air filter is dirty, operating the tractor may bring much damage. Since enough air is not absorbed, the efficiency of the engine decreases, and fuel consumption increases. In addition, the particles to be carried by the absorbed air cause abrasions and deposits in the cylinder. For this reason, you should check your tractor's air filter frequently.
